VH1 One-hit wonders list (June 5, 2002 5:30 PM)

In case you decided to check our math on the VH-1 greatest One-hit wonder list, we came up with 41, compared to the 44 listed. Here's why:
1) List errors: VH-1 incorrectly listed "Barbie Girl" and "Unbelievable" as 80's songs, but they were both released in the 90's.
2) Original release dates: We decided that since "Rapper's Delight" and "I've Never Been to Me" were released in the 70's, we'd count them as such. And though we don't list it as an 80's song on our site, since it was popularized by the movie "Benny and Joon" in the 90's, we counted "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" just to be consistent.
Regarding the original release dates, do you think we should have gone with the VH-1 method or ours? This is something we have grappled with since the site began.
